Propulsion is generated by twin flameproof motors paired with single-stage reduction gearboxes featuring i=6.92 gear ratios (Large gear: Z=90 m=6; Small gear: Z=13 m=6). The driving assembly leverages splash lubrication and maintains an 8kg gear oil capacity inside the transmission case for reliable long-term service.
Safety deceleration relies entirely on an advanced 4-wheel mechanical brake assembly utilizing brake shoes, balancing arms, heavy-duty screws, and a manual driver handwheel to trigger immediate, unified friction contact. To manage wheel slip under wet conditions, a mechanical pull-rod sanding system applies sand from specialized reservoirs directly to the rail-wheel contact point, immediately optimizing the adhesion coefficient.
The CBY8 locomotive is highly versatile and compatible with standard mining track gauges of 600mm, 762mm, and 900mm.
This locomotive is designed to operate safely under the following underground conditions: altitudes not exceeding 2000 meters, ambient temperatures ranging between -20°C and +40°C, and a maximum relative humidity of 95% (with the average lowest temperature of that month not exceeding 25°C).
The CBY8 8-ton locomotive delivers a maximum operational speed of 12 km/h and can reach a peak maximum tractive effort of 19.62 kN. Its hourly rated speed is 7.8 km/h with an hourly tractive effort of 12.83 kN.
It is equipped with one DXBL32384/140.8C(A) explosion-proof lithium-ion battery power supply unit and two ZBQ-15 flameproof DC traction motors operating at a rated voltage of 140V.
The braking system is completely mechanical, composed of brake shoes, connecting levers, a balancing arm, and a control handwheel linked to a screw rod. Turning the handwheel clockwise simultaneously clamps four single-direction brake shoes against all four wheels for highly stable stopping power.
The locomotive uses a single-stage reduction gearbox with a gear ratio of i=6.92 (90-tooth large gear and 13-tooth small gear, modulus m=6). The gearbox employs a splash lubrication method and requires 8kg of standard universal gear oil.
